  • A rare story even among a class of 18 inductees into the HOF.
  • Outstanding player, teacher, coach and director of Taylor Parks & Recreation. 
  • Burst on the scene as a youth pitcher who hurled Taylor to a Colt League state championship game win, 2-1. In that game against Hamtramck, he outdueled the famed Art “Pinky” Deras, who was considered one of the greatest Little League players ever and would go on to sign with the Detroit Tigers. 
  • A multiple-sport athlete at Taylor Center High School who graduated in 1964.
  • Attended Michigan State and Eastern Michigan universities, earning degrees from both. 
  • Eventually pitched in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization where he threw a no-hitter against the Greenwood Braves in 1970. 
  • Gave up professional baseball to become a teacher in the Taylor School District. 
  • Coached football, basketball and baseball, along with teaching debate, drama and forensics.
  • Director of the Taylor Parks & Recreation Department from 1974-92. 
  • Helped take the department from part-time to full-time status. Festivals and programs were expanded. 
  • Also worked through the creation of Heritage and Papp parks and the Lakes of Taylor and Taylor Meadows golf courses.
