Firearms Training Unit

Mission & Responsibilities

The mission of the Taylor Police Department’s Firearms & Use of Force Training Unit is to provide professional training in the techniques and safety in the use of firearms and alternative uses of force. The Firearms Training Unit also is responsible for adequately equipping and preparing police officers with firearms and non-lethal alternatives so they may overcome a threatening encounter. Officers from Taylor and surrounding areas are training in the Department’s state-of-the-art firearms training range.

The unit is responsible for initial recruit firearm training and the quarterly firearms requalification of all Taylor police officers. This unit coordinates training for the entire department including hands-on and scenario training.

The Taylor Police Department’s Firearm & Use of Force Training Unit consists of 10 officers who specialize in the use of all types of firearms and methods of force.
