Senior Services Calendar

  1. Plarning - Mats for the Needy

    March 6, 2019, 9:30 AM - March 25, 2020, 11:30 AM

    Plarning is making yarn from out of plastic strips (plarn) cut from grocery bags. The strips are crocheted into 3'x6' mats that are distributed to the homeless. The mats are lightweight, washable, bug resistant and also benefit our environment by putting the plastic bags to good use instead of our landfills. Approximately 700-1000 bags are used to complete one mat. This group meets every Wednesday from 9:30 - 11:30 am. We always need volunteers to sort, cut or crochet. If this interests you, why not join in and help provide a means for a needy cause and pass a good deed forward. We'd love to have you!

Bring a thick mat, wear loose clothes and don't eat two hours prior to class.

  4. Strength Training for seniors

    Joe from JDFitness is the instructor. This class focuses on strengthening the muscles and tendons of the entire body to improve seniors' overall ability to perform and enjoy every day activities. Participants will learn, practice and perform a wide variety of exercise techniques utilizing free weights, resistance bands, isometrics and calisthenics. Working out with resistance of any kind will lead to stronger bones, better flexibility and increased strength that add yet another layer of well being into your life.

    Charlene Queil will be teaching a different technique each session. She will show you how to create your watercolor from beginning to end so you can take it home that same day. This class is designed to teach beginners as well as advanced students. Students need to bring their own paint supplies and brushes.
