Dear Taylor Northwest Pool Patrons,
First and foremost, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. We have received questions from the community about if and how COVID-19 will change the way we operate our venue. After careful consideration, we are excited to let you know that we plan to reopen while following CDC guidance to protect our swimmers, staff, and our community.
The health and safety of our swimmers, staff, and other patrons remains our highest priority. Below you will find answers to what we feel will be frequently asked questions. We are excited to see you and to finally get summer started!?What changes can I expect upon arrival?
In order to maintain the mandated social distancing guidelines, we will limit the number of people entering the facility at one time. You must maintain six feet distance from other pool patrons when waiting to enter the building. We ask that you are patient as the check in process has changed.
All persons above the age of 2 must wear a face mask while inside our building to comply with current regulations. There will be hand sanitizer available when you enter the building.
Please note: you are not required to wear a mask on the pool deck, but are most welcome to. Swimmers are not permitted to enter the pool with a face mask, as the CDC has advised this is highly dangerous.?
Will I need to sign in?
Patrons will not be using the traditional sign in sheets. Our staff will ask for the name, address and phone number for each person in your group. We are required to collect and maintain this information in case you need to be notified if someone that was at the facility later tests positive for Covid-19. We are required to note the time you arrive and the time you depart for the day. You will be assigned a seating number for the pool deck.
Will the locker rooms be open?
The locker rooms will be open, with modifications. We will be marking the lockers so that you can maintain the recommended 6 ft. distancing. All public communal style showers have been ordered closed. We do have a shower station on the pool deck to rinse off. All restrooms will be sanitized every two hours. All hand soap will be fully stocked at all times.
What do I need to know before using the pool?
First and foremost, the CDC has advised that “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can spread to people through the water used in pools, hot tubs, or water playgrounds. Proper operation and disinfection of pools, hot tubs, and water playgrounds should kill the virus that causes COVID-19. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., chlorine and bromine) of pools and water playgrounds should inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.” Our pool is carefully maintained by our pool staff and we can assure you that it has adequate levels of chlorine at all times.
Will there be capacity limits? Yes, there will be an initial capacity limit of 150 patrons, which is 50% of our state-appointed pool enclosure capacity. We asked that only patrons who are swimming or bringing children to swim use the facility at this time, as space is limited.
Has the staff been adequately trained in hygiene and sanitation?
Yes, absolutely. Our pool staff have been trained on cleaning, hygiene and sanitation. They will practice social distance with the patrons, and with each other, whenever possible. A pool supervisor or manager will be on duty at all times.
Will I be able to practice social distance at the pool?
Yes, all patrons will have the opportunity to practice social distance on the pool deck. We will have numbered “family pods” that will be assigned to each family. If you choose to use our chairs, rest assured they are sanitized between uses. Families are encouraged to bring their own chairs. We do ask that you keep in mind that desk space is limited and recommend the bag style chairs used for sporting events.
Will the lifeguards enforce social distancing?
Lifeguards will not be monitoring the pool deck for social distancing. Their one and only job is to keep swimmers safe. Lifeguards will not enforce social distance in the water, as they must keep their attention on all swimmers. We will be placing small cones spaced six feet apart around the pool to help patrons visualize proper spacing. We will also have staff periodically walking the pool deck to encourage safe practices.
Will the concession area be open?
At this time, we will not be offering concessions, with the exception of water, that must be purchased at the front counter.
What is appropriate swim attire?
To be compliant with the Wayne County Health Department codes, all swim suits must have liners. No basketball shorts will be permitted in the pool.

The City of Taylor is always looking for lifeguards. Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe aquatic environment and will provide first aid/emergency care as needed. Lifeguards will also be expected to keep the facility clean. Current life-guarding and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications are required. Candidates must be able to work weekend hours, Friday through Sunday.
Interested candidates should apply at the Human Resource Department located on the second floor at the front of City Hall, 23555 Goddard Road, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The City of Taylor employment application may also be downloaded from our Jobs Module. A copy of the candidate's current lifeguard certification must be submitted with employment applications.
